Role: Motion Designer, Renderer

The Shoresy Classic is quickly becoming a beloved annual event for fans of the TV show Shoresy. Touring throughout the US and Canada, this charitable hockey event pits the characters from the show against alumni teams from the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and others.
In its second year, New Metric Media, the producers of the event, expanded to even more cities, and needed to both update their graphics package and adapt them to meet the specs of 8 different arenas. They turned to me to not only make the changes, but to manage the logistics of adapting and rendering so many videos, ensuring that videos played flawlessly on game day.

The biggest challenge was in creating videos for the ribbons. These ultra-wide and narrow videos required unique templates for every section of every ribbon in every arena. And the massive size of some of them (sometimes over 20,000 px wide!) would have meant long render times, and a higher probability of errors. To solve these challenges I developed an asset-based system with expressions that allowed me to adjust graphics to the exact width of each banner - no matter how large or small. Creation and render times went from hours to minutes.

During the project New Metric Media also asked me to create new videos for new sponsors, Raising Cane's and Bladetech Hockey. Working with the styleguide provided I created videos that matched the rest of the media package.
Even with some occasional last-minute additions and unexpected challenges we successfully delivered pixel-perfect videos for every arena. The Shoresy Classic was another major success for New Metric Media, with over 65,000 people attending. I was thrilled to be a part of that success.
